Meanwhile, Carl and Hoodsey plan to break the world record for the longest time spent stuck on a ski lift. When the chair lift stops, Jean-Pierre tries to kiss Ginger but she falls off and discovers she can ski, but for a price: she ends up breaking Darren's leg.

Plot[]

Lois drops Ginger and Carl in front of Lucky Jr. High. Dodie and Macie approach the car and ask Ginger if she asked her mother for permission to go on the annual school ski trip yet. Ginger quickly exits the car to avoid discussing the issue. Dodie asks why, and Ginger says they will discuss further at lunch. Meanwhile, at the elementary school, Carl looks over a flyer for the trip he had snatched from Dodie. He tells Hoodsey that the upcoming ski trip will be their ticket to fame.

While that happens, Courtney and Miranda discuss the ski trip. Both girls think it will be lame, but decide to "spice things up" with a bet. Miranda bets that she can convince the French exchange student, Jean-Pierre, to go to first base with a girl on the ski lift. Courtney decides that Ginger will be the girl for the bet, and whoever loses the bet does the other's math homework for a week. Miranda is confident that Jean-Pierre won't be interested, but Courtney says Ginger's charm may surprise them.

Later at lunch, Dodie continues to press Ginger for answers. Ginger gets fed up and shouts that she can't ski. Dodie and Macie say that there are other things to do at a ski resort besides the skiing, and Ginger starts to change her mind. Courtney and Miranda approach, and ask if Ginger will be going on the trip. Ginger says yes, and might even give skiing a try. Courtney says that Jean-Pierre was thinking about pairing up with Ginger on the chairlift, and "skiing down a more advanced slope" with her. Macie insists that Ginger isn't ready, but Courtney feels she is.

After school, Ginger is feeling uneasy. Lois asks why, and Ginger feels she can't fully explain the situation. While this happens, Carl raids the refrigerator. Ginger proceeds to explain without specific details at first, saying that what she was initially afraid of doing on the trip has been replaced with another fear. Lois eventually understands what Ginger is talking about, and sends Carl outside. She then reminisces about Ginger being a baby then hugs her for nearly an hour. After this, Ginger calls Dodie, and they try to discuss her outfit, but Joann Bishop interrupts, telling Dodie to get off the phone, then telling Ginger to send Hoodsey home.

Carl and Hoodsey are in Carl's room in a makeshift chairlift while wearing winter clothes. Carl's plan is finally revealed: he and Hoodsey are planning to break the world record for longest about amount of time spent in a chairlift. Hoodsey complains about getting hot in his snow suit, but Carl tells him to stay in the chair. After a few moments, Ginger comes in and tells Hoodsey to go home. He does, but Carl remains in the chair, asking if Ginger can bring his dinner up to him.

A few days later, it is the morning of the ski trip. Ginger writes in her diary. She feels excited about Jean-Pierre liking her, but is worried about kissing him, especially since she still has a crush on Ian Richton. Lois enters with her old winter coat. It's big and puffy, but also stained and reeking of mothballs. Ginger groans at having to wear it. Shortly after, the middle schoolers are getting dropped off at the school to board their bus. Ginger complains to her friends about the state of the coat. Dodie suggests calling it "vintage" so people will think she chose the look on purpose. Behind the bus, Carl and Hoodsey ride up on their bikes, and hide inside some luggage, which gets put on top of the bus.

Ginger and her friends board the bus. Ginger deflects a comment about the coat by saying it's a vintage. She also locks eyes with Jean-Pierre, who chuckles at her. Miranda sits next to Courtney and says she has no chance of winning the bet. Courtney then tells Miranda to move seats so Ginger can sit by her. Miranda reluctantly does so, and sits next to Macie. She eavesdrops on Ginger and Courtney's conversation. Courtney asks Ginger how "far" she has gone with a boy. Ginger says the furthest she has gone is holding hands back in second grade. Courtney responds that if Ginger wants to snag Jean-Pierre, she needs to do something more "advanced", then whispers in Ginger's ear on what to do. Ginger looks stunned.

Later, the bus arrives at the ski resort. The luggage is unloaded, and Carl and Hoodsey get out of their hiding places. Ginger and her friends all talk about Ginger's chairlift ride of fate. Ginger says that Courtney told her to french kiss Jean-Pierre. Ginger doesn't know how to french kiss, but Dodie claims to know. She demonstrates the motion, and Ginger and Macie repeat it. They keep kissing at the air until Jean-Pierre passes by and greets them.

Meanwhile, back at the Foutley house, Joann calls Lois, and asks where Hoodsey is. Lois isn't sure, but quickly deduces that the boys are at the ski resort. She drives towards it, but sees Darren sitting at the bus stop, looking depressed. She asks what he is doing, and he explains that he was supposed to have an important orthodontic appointment that day, but his dentist cancelled. He is sad because he is missing the trip. Lois offers to take Darren to the lodge since she is heading that way anyway.

Back at the resort, the line for the chairlift is forming. Miranda and Courtney talk to Jean-Pierre. Miranda says that he could have his pick of the dozens of girls that like him. Courtney counters by specifically recommending Ginger. Jean-Pierre admits that he has a weakness for girls in general, but Ginger has a certain something special. Courtney then summons Ginger closer to the front so she can sit with Jean-Pierre. Macie tells Ginger she doesn't have to do anything she isn't comfortable with, and Ginger goes ahead. As they approach the chairs, Ginger sees Carl and Hoodsey talking to the chairlift operator. They are bribing him with a big wad of cash to stop the chairlift. Ginger is shocked to see the boys, but before she can say anything, Courtney gently pushes her towards Jean-Pierre and the two go up in the chairlift. Ginger chats with Jean-Pierre. He comments how red her nose has gotten from the cold, saying that it's cute. Just then, the chairlift stops, and everyone is suspended in the air. Carl and Hoodsey start their timer. Ginger starts to panic, but Jean-Pierre flirts with her. She nervously flirts back.

Lois and Darren arrive at the resort, and start looking for Carl and Hoodsey. Hoodsey notices Lois and says hello to her, alerting her to their location. The lift operator tries to stop Lois saying the boys need to stay in the air for 16 more hours, but Lois threatens to have him fired if he doesn't get the boys down. Meanwhile, Ginger makes more small talk, but Jean-Pierre decides to make his move and try to kiss Ginger. As he gets closer, the chairlift starts moving again, and the rocking causes Ginger to fall off and onto the slope. She screams and panics, but eventually whoops with joy as she skis down the mountain. Darren is at the bottom, and sees Ginger approaching. Ginger is unable to slow down, and she collides with Darren as he tries to get out of the way.

Later, the students are all taking the bus home. Darren sits in the back with Ginger; his leg in a cast. Ginger apologizes, but Darren takes the situation in stride, saying that a cast is like a chick magnet. Ginger signs her name on Darren's cast. She then writes in her diary about the day's events, comparing skiing and French kissing to anything else someone might do for the first time: it's scary at first, then kind of exciting, and its important to know when to stop. Meanwhile, Lois drives Carl and Hoodsey home, yelling out Carl's punishments the whole way.
